In Pope Palpatine's defense, he's quite a clever guy and not nearly as frighteningly, nauseatingly right-wing as I originally thought. I mean, yeah, "force for good" is still probably a bit of a stretch, and that meeting certainly did not restore any of my faith in humanity (of which I have little, I mean, come on, I'm a Watts fan), but I'd take him over Bush any day of the week.
I certainly hope the definition of temporal being referred to here is worldly, or related to time. If the reference is to the temporal lobe of the brain, I think I will lose by lunch.
I rather doubt that. I'm sure there are a great many true believers but there are also no doubt many who were simply curious. I don't think it's fair to lump them all together like that.
Value statements tell us more about the people making them than they do about their subject.
This why I love being an atheist, its like being in a secret society that never bothers to hide the fact that we share common threads of cognizance and imagination. I always relish finding new threads in the tapestry its like finding out two of your friends know each other already.

Bush and the Pope... reality TV at it's pinnacle. And the mobs are soaking it up.
It's revolting.

"Bush has immense temporal power"

Could be worse. For a moment, I thought he was saying Bush had the keys to a time machine...
Wow, just in the last month I've started seeing Pharyngula links every which way I turn. Must be the envy of every other SciencBlogger out there. ^^;

PZ is always interesting.
PW takes it to another level though.
